Membrane technology has become an integral part of many filtration and separation processes in various industries – ranging from dairy processing and cheese production, sterile filtration of beer, wine and fruit juice clarification, water filtration right through to pharmaceutical uses.
Irrespective of the specific membrane technology being used (MF, UF, NF or RO) a few common standards apply to all of these; namely the need for complete final product quality assurance, optimized membrane performance and extended membrane lifespans and overall plant efficiencies at controlled costs.
Membrane cleaning and sanitation are critically important but technically complex and challenging.
Depending on the application, certain soil types are extremely tenacious and tough to clean. Additional points to consider are the sensitivity of the actual membrane composites which have a lower tolerance to high temperatures and pH limits than other processes and substrates.
